    Hello everyone...

I am having a problem with a chicken. First, I thought it was a pullet, but when I took a blanket off from where he is staying he crowed... but thats not the problem

He seemed thin and picked on when I brought him in. So I fed him and got him back up to weight. Gave antibotics and the whole 9 yards. He seems fine now all except for one thing. He sits up on his knees (the bend in the leg) and sits with his feet almost curled up under him. Then if you try to get him to stand he shakes really bad. I don't have any other symptoms. No diarehea, discharge, odor, etc.

What do you all think is wrong?

    Thanks!

It could be a nutritional or genetic (not likely) disorder. What are you feeding him? Slipped tendon could be the problem too. Some diseases cause that symptom, but usually with other symptoms. Are his hocks and/or feet swollen and hot?

I feed him what all the other chickens get....Corn, Scratch grains, wheat, and layer crumbles.

His legs don't feel any warmer and don't look or feel swollen

    What is slipped tendon?

I was watching him some today...He does have a slight diarhea, but its not like it is all the time. I looked at some of the other droppings that he has poo'ed out and they all look normal. I have watched him before and seen this but then all the other droppings look normal...I don't know. What do you all think?

Edited to ask what does Vitamin B do?

I would try giving him Avia Charge 2000 vitamins or if you don't have that buy some PolyViSol liquid baby vitamins and put three drops on his beak per day for a few days.

You can also try giving him only layer crumbles and some extra protein like scrambled egg.

Sometimes this is a vitamin or nutritional deficiency, and if he has access to scratch he might not ever eat the crumbles, which have better nutrition.

I have already tried some antibotics and I also tried vitamins and minerals. He was on each for about a week. Neither have helped significantly. I can try giving the vitamins and minerals again and see what happens....Thanks for the suggestions.

As long as his diet is predominately layer crumbles, than it's not likely a nutritional thing (layer crumble is complete). Hm... I'm not really sure. Try the vitamins, he'll be better very quickly if that's the case. If that doesn't work, try splinting his legs. He could have a severely splayed leg.

Slipped tendon is a nutritional disorder. The damage is irreversible but you can lessen the extent of the damage with vitamins.
