I just became a mother! (new babies!)

luv arabhorses -

Only the one pic of the article is working... what are the other two pics?

Also, do you have a picture of your half dobie half westie dog? That would be quite the interesting cross to see!

pineburrowpeeps, the nest is actually relatively clean inside....all the poop is around the outer edge. I don't know if they just do that on their own, or if the parents "clean" it out onto the edge.

Definitely not going to "keep" this nest once they are done!

luvarabhorses, from what I can see of the article, sounds interesting! And accurate as this nest contains moss, twigs, duct tape, scotch tape, leaves, hay, etc. They actually built in a pretty good spot. My garage is more of a large shed....with a divider part way through that is about 7 feet tall. They are on the "closed in" side, but they can fly in and out over the divider. So they are relatively safe from predators (other than mice or rats, I guess) and the weather. And if they like chicken feed, there is plenty laying around in there that the chickens kick out of their shed.

I love the part where she disapproves of his homebuilding efforts and rebuilds everything herself!! And the bickering ooooh, but they get the job done.

Well, look how feathered the little buggars are now.

It's been two weeks as of tomorrow that they hatched. Pretty sure they are going to fly the nest this week.

And the other nest, of course.

You can see Momma bird at the edge of the basket here.

And the nest in the garage is still growing....

AND. Because apparently I am an absolute BIRD MAGNET...there is now a new nest in another hanging basket on the porch. That white puff is a big puff of dog undercoat, ha ha ha. I guess everybody is getting involved here!

There was another aborted attempt at a nest in a different basket as well. Crazy birds!

New pics!

Still three birds in the original nest when I got home. They look ready to fly away. The only remaining fluffy is like CRAZY EYEBROWS.

These are my mad scientist house finch babies.

Then a few hours later, I went outside and.........down to 2 birds!

The nest in the garage is up an other egg again. I think the bird is starting to sit on them today.......she really did not want to give up her post when I was in there. I will check again tomorrow to see if there are any more eggs, and if not, will leave her alone for the nest 10 days.

The new nest in the other hanging basket is still empty, but is still being built. The fluff of dog hair that was just sitting in it, is now pushed and woven into the bottom.

That's adorable!! A little bird of some kind built a nest in the wooden hole under my mailbox. There are 4 very bright blue eggs in there...about the size of a Button quail egg. I can't wait until they hatch and I can figure out what they are!
