Last week I discovered my 6 red sex links had taken to pecking each others vents, 3 of them were bleeding. I seperated them, cleaned them up the best I could and sprayed all six bottoms with blu-kote. after a couple of days I was able to re-introduce 2 back with the others, but had to keep the other one seperated.
Poop accumulated on her vent and the feathers underneath it.
I tried for several days, it was hard for her to poop, and with freezing temperatures here in Atlantic Canada, I finally realised that i wasnt dealing with frozen poop, but instead the flesh was necrotic and now she had frost bite under her vent going down where the poop was sticking to her.
We just culled her, I feel that I did my best for, I guess my instincts were correct that the outcome wasnt going to be good for her becasue she couldn’t poop properly.
I’m posting this so that it will help someone else that may find themselves in this situation.
