Some of you might have noticed I was seeking a home for a great dog we had here. (If not, she was a German Shepherd, fully trained, wonderful, sweet dog [IMG] That someone had basically abandoned here) Anywho, I had hung a few flyers for her, as we needed to rehome her before the chicks moved outside (her one downside was that she REALLY wanted to eat them...)

Well we got a call about her on Thursday. The lady seemed really nice, it said Aurora Health System on my phone and she said she was a nurse, so I naturally thought good things. She told me about her two children and asked all the right questions. I was pretty sure I'd found a good home for the dog. So she comes out that night to see her and everything goes wonderfully. She brings her kids and everyone gets along really well. I'd written down everything I knew about the dog and had vet papers to boot. She took her home and I felt happy that I'd made a good choice and found her a good home.

Well, she calls me on Friday and tells me she has to bring her back because it appears her youngest son is allergic and she wants a refund. She also says the dog won't stop barking (which is funny because I didnt hear a thing while on the phone with her) and is distroying her house (though in the three months we had her here she never touched a thing), and then finally she tells me that her boyfriend hates the dog and she really just needs her money back.

Now I'm not a petty person, but bein 'farm' people, we have bills to pay too, and I'd paid our cable bill with the $100 she paid for the dog. I told her I'd talk to my husband and call her back. I talked to my husband who told me if the dog came back we'd keep her somehow and just pay her back for her because we all loved her so much. Then I called a good friend of mine that breeds and raises labs and asked her what she would do. She told me what shes done in the past and I called the lady back. I told her she could bring her back and I would give her something for her and pay her the rest when I was able to rehome her. She agreed that was fair and said she'd be over first thing Sunday morning.

Well, Sunday morning came and went. It rolled into the evening. I called and got a machine so I left a message just asking if she was still coming by or not. Monday has now come and gone and I've not heard a thing. I left another message showing my great concern for the dog and asking her to please show me thats shes a good person by calling me and letting me know what happened. Now I'm terribly worried that a great dog is out there suffering somewhere because of money and I feel horrible. She was such a wonderful dog, and we miss her terribly. [IMG] I'm mad that someone has the gall to play with someone's emotions like this and I have no idea what I should do or what I even can do about it. I guess I just needed to get this off my chest. Thanks for listening to me ramble. [IMG]

You might be able to find a way to get an address from the phone number and go check, or call where she works to get ahold of her. But I think the first thing I would do would be to check all the shelters and pounds in the area to see if she had just dumped her. I'm so sorry this has happened to you. I hope you can find her soon.

My main worry is that she sold her to whomever had close to what she paid for her. I did check several humane societies in her area and told them to call me if a dog fitting the discription I gave came in. I can ID her because I have records on file at my vet as well as several time stamped photos of her before and after we got some good weight on her. I just really hope she's alright. She was such a sweety. [IMG] We'd really hoped she was going to a good home. Now I cant sleep because once again the world has shown me that its filled with creeps.

I'm so sorry. It would drive me nuts too. I really hope she's found a great home.

Better yet I would make copies of pictures of the dog and personally go and leave them with the Humane Society, just as another point of contact with them that would show them how concerned you are over the well being of the dog. If the humane society hasn't heard of the whereabouts of the dog, then it sounds like they may have gotten another person to take the dog. Good luck.

Keep trying!! Don't give up! The dog is now depending on you to make sure she is either in a good home, or back with you!!!!!

Hi all - I'm new here. I'm saddened to read about your pup. Has there been any contact since a couple of days ago? Case in point why I have 4 "dumped dogs" - just couldn't trust giving them away, even for a nominal price. I truly hope this has a happy outcome.
By the way, I've got guineas, dogs, cats and horses.

Well, a sort of happy ending. Appearantly she (the lady that bought her from me) took her to a humane society instead of bringing her back to me. The humane society found her a great home before they were able to call me and let me know that she'd even come in (she was such a great dog, one of the staff wanted her!). We still miss her, but at least I know now she's in a good home and they said I can call for updates on her whenever I'd like. I can sleep a little easier tonight. [IMG]

That is a happy ending--congratulations! But to be honest, it makes what the woman did even worse.

    People suck.

Yup. I just love my bumper sticker. It reads: "The more people I meet, the more I love my pets." lol (If anyone would like this or a similar bumper sticker, we make and sell them! Just email me! [IMG] )
