I was closing everyone in for the night and the hens were already up on their roosts.
My mother hen decided it's time to get rid of the nest box on the floor. She is still trying to keep her chick away from the other hens, so she decided to use the perch in front of the nest boxes for a roost tonight.
I decided to stay and watch what was going on.
She hopped up to the second tier and started making the funniest noise I've ever heard, but her chick knew what it meant. He was in a panic for about 5 mins. trying to get to mama and she was just sitting there preening and calling ocassionally. Finally, he makes it to the first tier and paces. Then he makes it up to mama and snuggled up next to her and she covered him with her wing.
It was the most adorable thing to see with his little tail sticking out in the front. (he was up there backwards)

Ooh, thanks for sharing that. I hope we can have some little ones like that next year. Do you happen to know if Australorps make good broody Mothers?
