I am so mad at myself. I had 8, 5wk old chicks. Today was pretty in Atlanta so I decided to let them out of their brooder box in the basement and out into the yard. I kept checking on them, but the last time I went out I found one laying on the ground dead with a puncture in its breast, bleeding, and then I found 6 of them hiding. I couldn't find the eighth ones body but I found a mess of feathers not far away from the dead chick. The six that were hiding are okay, but obviously scared.

I feel terrible. Do you think it was a hawk? One carried away and one left behind?

    SO sad! [IMG]

Sorry for your loss. Were they fenced in...any way for a dog to get in? If not, then it could have been a hawk.

    DOG...and it will be back.

So sorry for your chickies. Better keep an eye out or keep them inside.

Dog or possibly cat. Cat's don't generaly bother grown chickens, but the youngsters are vulnerable. Sorry you lost your babies. I hope you find the culprit and can correct the situation so the rest stay safe. [IMG]
