Long story short.. I have lost chickens to dogs, hawks, and owls (I live in the country). Hard to explain, but I had 2 chickens and a rooster who were getting along. I bought 4 new grown chickens and the hens I had killed them. I am devastated. I think my old chickens are fighting hens, hindsight regarding the facility they came from and their behavior has led me to this conclusion. My four new ones were bought at a nicer facility and I intend to go back and get more as soon as I get rid of the others who really did not lay very well anyway. I am keeping my rooster, he came from the neighbor and is a very nice rooster.

Is there a trick to introducing new hens (all from the same group of course) to a single rooster?

    Thanks for your help!

Hi and :welcome from Ohio. So glad you joined. You should first quarantine any new birds before putting them together. After that it is good to separate the birds with some type of fencing that they can see one another but can't get to each other. Then under supervision, put them together and see what happens. It may take some time before they get use to one another. Good luck. :thumbsup

    Thanks,
Fortunately, my coop is designed with two "wings" (pun intended) and I can keep them apart, but they can still see each other.
