Todays hatch was done by 11:00.
Set 12 eggs, 11 made it to the hatcher, 10 hatched (1 had internally pipped and died, I opened it to make sure it wasn't just slow).
Got 7 Naked Necks and 3 feathered necks --- all dark-skinned.

Filled the empty spaces in the bator this afternoon

Ameraucana eggs and mottled Cochin eggs.

Then set 25 Button Quail (lol, Feathered Mice) eggs in the Hovabator.

Congrats on the good hatch. How did you get dark skin on the naked necks.

They are {[(Naked x Silkie) X Silkie] X [(Naked x Silkie) X Silkie]} or
{[(Naked x Silkie) X Silkie] X [(Frizzle Cochin x Silkie) x (Frizzle Cochin x Silkie)]} --- and get the dark skin from the Silkie side of the family.
Lol... odd, odd, birds

okay lisa I amnew to this and this maybe a dumb question. Do you place eggs in the bator at all different times and keep filling it until it is full. If so what happens when they all hatch at different times? And do you have a turner....I really can see I am going to need to fine tune this addiction. I keep seeing and finding eggs I want but on have one bator....sorry to be such a pain, thanks

Hi Cindy, Not a dumb Q at all

What I do is set eggs every Fri (or Sat, if I get busy and forget).
To do it that way you need a seperate unit to use as a hatcher.
Every Tues, I move the Day 18 eggs to the hatcher and those spaces are empty til I set more eggs the following Fri.

The ones marked '6' will go to the hatcher on the 24th, and I'll add a new group on the 26th.
And so on and so on...

The bator has a fan and turner, but the one I use as a hatcher is a still air.

I had a chance recently to pick up one of those 200+ egg incubators pretty cheap --- I passed on it 'cause I'm just foolish enough I'd try to keep it FULL all the time! That would be too many chicks, even for me

Oh my gosh what a great system! Now what are you going to do with all those chicks. Do you sell them? oh my I can already see this is going to be so fun!
