Hello all! I'm a new member with 12 six month old pullets plus a cockerel. I went to let everyone out of the coop, this morning, and my sweet Sunshine, remained on the roosting bar with one eye closed. She is usually very active and vocal but has been very calm and quiet today, not really lethargic but much calmer. Her poop was normal, she is eating and drinking and I don't see any discharge in her eye. We have her separated her and have her in a dog crate, inside of the house What could be wrong with my girl? Any help is greatly appreciated!

Welcome to BYC, sorry to hear about your hen.

How is she doing today?

Her signs are fairly non-specific to any condition, so the more information we have about her past history, her current condition, and her setup, the better we will be able to help you. So any more information you have that you think would be useful please mention. I'll start you off.

What are you feeding them? Could you post a few pictures or a video of her? Do you know if this hen is laying? Have you felt her abdominal area, how does it feel, hard, soft? How does her crop feel? In the morning it should be empty, in the evening it should be almost like a bean-bag. Could you post a few pictures of her poop? Have you inspected her from head toe, checking in her mouth, underwings, legs, around her vent, etc? Has she had any problems in the past, if so, what?

Thank you for your reply, I apologize, I thought the pics had loaded. I'm pretty sure she laid an egg, yesterday, before I quarantined her but, we have two that lay very similarly colored eggs and one didn't lay.. so I'm not positive. History on Sunshine....we got her along with our other ladies, at the end of March. They were raised inside until ready to move into their coop. None of them have ever been sick or showed any signs of being ill. We feed them Dumor layer feed from tractor supply and leave out oyster shells for those that need it. Most days, they free range for at least half of the day, usually longer. Sunshine laid her first egg on Sept 6 and has been relatively regular with laying. I felt under her wings, checked legs and checked her crop and vent. All seem normal but, I'm new to this. It's mostly her eye that seems to be the problem. This morning, she is a little perkier but her eye appears to have some discharge now. She is eating and drinking though and moving around ok. I've also attached a pic of her poop.. this is the only poop i saw in the crate. I've attached a pic if our coop/run. Currently, she is isolated in a metal dog crate, inside the house with us. I'll be more than happy to check her again and answer any more questions. I'm so worried about our sweet girl. Ps...the two pics of her outside with me holding her, are from yesterday and are in selfie mode(so pic is flipped). The others are from this morning.
