I posted this a few days ago and got some good advice :I got a lovely new Bantam hen at the start of Oct. 4 days ago i noticed that she wasnt very well she had some mucus around her nose so the vet advised me to give her an injection of Baytrail but after giving her the 1ml (25mg Baytrail ) I relased that the dose was totally wrong it should of been 0,1ml..... I also noticed she had scaly legs so i washed them with mite/flee shampoo and than put antimite drops in cocconut oil all over her legs . She was standing as if in pain so over the next few days i have repeated the treatment on her legs daily .Unfortunately two days ago she couldnt stand up anymore and im not sure if this is because of the overdose or something else... i dont know what to do .. any advise would be greatly appreciated
THE Situation now is that she can move her legs but can't hold herself up . If I hold food up near her she will eat a little . She has been gasping since yesterday and this morning she didn't want to eat until I collected her some live Beatles which she enjoyed . She doesn't make any noise when she opens her mouth to gasp .... I really don't know what to do .. Should I give her more antibiotics ?????

Didnt I see this same question somewhere else with answers?

I would ring your vet, explain the miss dose and ask her whether to continue with the correct dose now. I'm only guessing but I doubt that one dose would have done much to kill the bug so she is still going to need the rest of the course. Or was it a one shot dose not a course? Either way I'd ring and see if she needs more. (This is assuming bay trial is some sort of antibiotic?, if not you need to get some from the vet)

If you are washing her legs daily and daily she is getting worse on her legs I'd be tempted to say stop doing that. Cover her legs in vasolene for now and concentrate on the bigger problem. I lost one this year to a similar thing, you need to knock it on the head before the mucus blocks her whole system.

If this is bacterial one dose of antibiotics is not enough. Dosing her once and then stopping for several days can create resistance meaning that antibiotic may not work well if started back up.

Yes that's what I thought , I have rang the vet but couldn't talk with the expert in hens!!![IMG][IMG]!!! But I'll try again later, what is worrying is why she can't stand , I had noticed ever since I got her that she twitched her head in a strange manner , I hope it's not something neurological combined with a cold ?!?!thanks again for your replies [IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]
