I'm so excited! I have heard that silkies can be very hard to determine gender and I may be wrong, but I think I know the gender on my 4-5 week old silkies! I tried to feather sex them during their first week - and had some guesses based on that - but today I discovered that "Ping" has a bigger comb! His comb just popped out, while my other two silkies - Mulan and ?? still have small, flat combs! This is so cool!

My silkie mix chicks, also I think I know gender - also feather sexed them, and guessed one to be male and one female. Well my suspected male developed little red wattles in the last couple of days! The suspected female has no wattles so far.

Thanks, BYC for helping me to learn about stuff that I never even fathomed!

I have noticed the same thing on mine, around 6 weeks the boys start growing a comb, so far I have been correct on 4 girls and 2 boys, and have 3 of each I just seperated based on that discovery and figure I will know if I am still correct in a another month or two
