I believe my ducks are mating. It looks quite aggressive. They always do it in the pool. The female looks like she is drowning. Should I intervene? How long does it take for an egg to produce? What happens after the egg is born? I do not have a coop yet. My two ducks hang out during the day outside and they come in my house for the night. Also, I’m in Florida and we do get cold weather, briefly. How cold is too cold for ducks or they adjust their body temperature? The coldest it has ever been here is 30 degrees.

Mating does not necessarily mean that the hen will start laying. Onset of laying varies from breed to breed. Nothing happens after the egg is laid until you eat it or once a clutch has been laid the duck goes broody. One drake breeding a duck rarely results in drowning. Multiple drakes gang breeding a duck is another story. Ducks are very winter hardy. 30 F is no problem for ducks whatsoever. Good luck with your ducks.

:goodpost: Ducks mating is not pretty.

I got so scared for my female the first time I noticed mating behavior. Ducks are just more aggressive while mating. Totally normal. It has been in the 30s where I am already and my ducks are totally fine. They act like they don’t care that it’s cold at all. They still get in their pool to swim and everything. They are definitely hardy animals.
