I think my girls are teen-agers

My first flock were rescues. We were not sure of their age but I thought well over 2 possibly 3 or 4 years old. They were sedate and well mannered. As we lost them one by one (only one disappeared) we started thinking about a new flock. Our granddaughter happily took our smaller coop and the last two of our six Golden Comets. On October 20 we bought twelve 18 week old Golden Comet pullets. They are picky eaters, flighty and I have to stay on them about sleeping on the roosting poles, we had to cover the nesting boxes (no one is laying yet.) Finally, my question is this ... will these girls mature or is this behavior their default nature?

I had a Red Sex link chicken until last year. She died due to age??? They do not live much over 4 or 5 years. Was a mild friendly chicken.
Layed eggs well. Was not flighty at all.
Your Comets should start laying any time now. If they are in your nest-boxes, then maybe they are testing things out..:idunno
Not sure of the position of roosts compared to nest-boxes.
Generally, roost should be higher than nests. Chickens will naturally choose the higher perch.
I think your chickens will become more tame/friendly in short time as they do mature. Handling them encourages friendly behavior.
WISHING YOU BEST.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, and :welcome
