I was out collecting eggs and I found an egg that was outside of the nesting box. It was cracked open and it looked like it had been eating. Where it was located it would be very hard for any of them to step on it. Surely this is not normal. The girls are one year old and going into their second laying season. Please advise..... Thanks!

I think I'm having the same problem. I have ten hens.Four of them are two years old. the others are around nine months. I have noticed remains of egg in the nest boxes. not to much shell ,3 or 4 times in the last week. I passed it off as a soft shell egg which I get occasionally. But today I found three eggs in one nest box and two were broken open. I do have two coops so I am going to separate them for a few days to see if I can see from which group it is happening.

Anybody have any ideas or thoughts??????
