i think my kids favorite orpington is a roo...

I would definitely say pullet. Here is a picture of my Roo to compare and my hen to compare. Also, your Orpington doesn't have a red comb that should be visible by 10 weeks.

I also believe that you have a lavender Orpington! That is the same breed I have, so I definitely think it is a pullet. But in case it isn't, watch out for attempts at crowing, strutting, look for saddle feathers and big tail feathers.
 
My Roo and hen are also older than your chicken, but I still see more resemblance to my hen than my Roo. Your chicken wouldn't have a comb the size of my rooster's at 10 weeks, even if it were a Roo.

In the early weeks I felt as developing quicker then the others. But now it seems to have slowed and doesn't look as red as my more obvious roos. I will be keeping a close eye on him/her. I still hope it's a her
