I think that my duck has bumblefoot but during surgery not so much

Okay, so my duck was limping this morning and we took a look at her feet. One spot looked a lot like bumblefoot. Black scab, hard swollen spot, the works. We put some antibiotic on it and her little hot pink shoes. I research ad nauseam and prep for surgery tonight. I did look around for Tricide Neo, but couldn't get ahold of any today and didn't want her to have to wait for relief. So, we follow the steps, soak her foot and begin to dig. The scab comes off fine (though in pieces), but underneath it doesn't look cheesy. It looks like tissue (pink) and will not separate out like in Ruth's description. We ended up packing the wound with neosporin and putting some fresh (purple) shoes on her little flippers.

So, my question is: am I really dealing with bumblefoot or did I just torture my poor duck (and myself) when in fact there is something else entirely going on. Does this sound right to you? I know that pictures would help, but we were too traumatized to remember to take any.

Oh, and just an aside - I am so glad that a year ago we bought a couple of pair of Nettie's little shoes. It seemed silly at the time (we had no emergency), but it has been a life saver in helping us deal with this little drama.

Anyway - I would really appreciate some feedback on this before we go through round 2 of torture the poor ducky and owners. It was probably more stressful for us then for her.

EDITED to add: just to clarify, when I saw how different the site looked from Ruth's description, we did NOT continue but treated it with neosporin and put her little booties back on.

I haven't had to deal with bumblefoot yet but I know living and free ranging on 11 acres we will have to eventually. i hope you get an answer soon and that your ducky is alright soon
