I just picked up what I thought were two Cuckoo Maran chicks. One is very different than the other. From these pics can anyone tell me if the one with the red comb is a roo?
I got them as day old chicks maybe 5 weeks ago? Maybe a little longer. I'm so bummed because I need new pullets and I thought I'd get two to keep each other company when I add them to my 6 other ladies. I love my girls but we can't keep roo's here and I don't want to see him killed. And now, I don't know how to introduce just the one little girl. I have them in their "play pen" during the day so the other hens can see them and get use to them. I hope my other girls don't pick on her too much and I have to find a home for him..... :-(
Once you have a certain number of posts you can advertise him on the BYC buy sell or trade forum or on your state thread. Being a cuckoo maans he could also be used in an olive egger breeding program so that might open up some possibilities. Good luck, he's a cute little guy.
ckbco: He was suppose to be a Cuckoo Maran Pullet. He's a sturdy strong little guy. I'll post to the Northern California area later to see if anyone wants him for breeding, not eating. I am firm about that. We don't eat pets with names. He went from Mildred to Mervyn Maran!! Thanks everyone for your comments!! I always get so much help here!! D
