There are only a handful of serious Delaware breeders in the U.S. I know because I looked and looked and looked. Not all are easy to find nor do they just send out hatching eggs to anyone who asks.
I think it is interesting to note that while Delawares were on the SPPA's 1998 endangered list, they are not on the 2008 list. I do NOT understand how they could not be considered endangered when we can find so few sources of good birds, yet here they AREN'T:
Now, that's interesting. I believe it has to be an oversight. Cant go from critically endangered to not in trouble at all in ten years. Just isn't possible, IMO.
According to this link: http://albc-usa.org/cpl/parameters-poultry.html the list is current as of 2007, so that would make the SPPA list more current. However, like Speckledhen, I cannot believe Delawares are suddenly not endangered/threatened in just these few years. That must surely be a misprint, so I am going to email SPPA and ask. The worst they can do is not answer.
edited to add: I've emailed Mr. Everett from SPPA and will be sure to post what he tells me.
