Okay so I have 2 chicks that are 6 weeks and 1 that is 2 weeks. I wanted to give them some greens and some other treats. Do I need to provide them with some grit and if so, what can I use?

Yes, they'll need grit. You can buy baby grit at the farm store or TSC.[IMG]

My closest feed/farm store is about an hour away from me. Is there anything else I can use? I thought I read somewhere that sand could be used?

Try parakeet grit from the pet store. Welcome! Mary

Ok so another stupid question, if I were to give them a piece of banana, would I put it in the grit? Or just have the grit in another container in the brooder? Sorry if that's a dumb question, I'm a chicken newbie!!

Either put it in another dish, or scatter it in the shavings or around the edge of the brooder. They'll eat some if they want it. Mary

ask away! there are no dumb questions at all. If you don't know, you don't know. Better to ask than to mess up and make one of the little ones sick or worse
