I want to know how to make a smoker

I just love smoked salmon but now its like $8 for a small package so I just want to know how to make a small smoker to also smoke other meat too.Im in my early teens so I cant afford to buy one,but I go have several metal trashcanes i can use .Or if theres anything better ill probly have it.Thx

metal trash can (or the big terracotta pots but those are more expensive)

hotplate (electric)

pan to hold the wood chips

grill grate (can use an old one from a BBQ grill, or try to find some other that would fit.)

thermometer with a probe

drill a hole in the bottom (side) of the trash can for the power cord of the hotplate and also one in the top for the probe to go into.

look on the net for smoking times and temps for various foods - then happy eating.

I used to use Alton Brown's before we got a real one.
