Our 4 chickens have a 3 foot by 40 foot run to hang out in the day. It's just dirt with a little roof at the end for shade. What can I put in there that would be fun for them and keep them entertained? I've yet to hang a cabbage for them to peck at but I want to try that.

Take a tire and fill it with sand. Chickens love dust bathing, and will do it for hours.

Dusting bathing aka the most heart stopping thing to see the first time you see it [IMG]

Put some roosts in there for them to hang out on. You could also put a pile of grass clippings/leaves/hay in a corner and they will happily scratch through it for hours.

Stumps, logs, small pieces of plywood or boards laid down on ground then flipped over every few days for bugs under there.
    Old chairs, ladders, tables.
Pallets leaned up against run wall and/or up on blocks.

These are great ideas! And cheap; most things are laying around my yard already!
