We started raising chicks when my boyfriend purchased a dozen chicks in April of this year from Tractor Supply. He wasn't sure what they all were, and neither am I. All our eggs are brown, but I haven't figured out who is laying them yet. We get 7 a day from these 10 that we still have from the original order (a couple were Plymouth Rock, purchased for the meat; they are already processed). Can you tell me what we have here?

The reds are Red Sex Links, and the blacks are Black Sex Links.

I see two black sexlinks, two red sexlinks, and a production red - all prolific brown egg layers.

Thank you everyone on the replies. Now I need to go look up what a sex link is! [IMG]

Sex links are hybrids that are crosses between two pure breeds and end up with chicks whose genders can be told from hatch by color. In sex links like yours, girls are born reddish brown and the boys are white. They are a cross of Rhode Island Red and New Hampshire white. I had to look up the same thing! I'm still not completely clear as to whether the Cinnamon Queens I have are red or gold sex links since I have read threads and articles that claim both! Oh well! Hope this helps.

Also called black or red stars. The black should have a brownish chest and a shiny greenish back
