I just picked up my first chicks today. They will be one week tomorrow. I have them in a large plastic tote with a Momma heating pad. They went under it just fine. I decided to check on them and the temperature. Well, it was way too hot, (100F) on the thermometer. I would have thought that they would come out. Anyway, I raised the pad up a bit and lowered the temperature. Now they just want to sleep on the top all sprawled out. I hope I am doing this right. I have not had baby chicks before. Also, at least one of them has a bit of diarrhea. Is that normal from the stress of moving? They have been eating and drinking so that is good.

If its just runny poop, that's totally normal, if every poop is runny, try feeding raw oats, and putting apple cider vinegar in their water, as for the heat, if they are uncomfortable, they will let you know. If you have a lot of runny poop, then check them for pasty butt.

They usually have diarrhea from stress, always keep food and water at all time, hold them often so they get your trust, and try to get some pine shavings flaked for their bedding hope this helps :D
I meant to get some pine shavings when I stopped for the chick feed but totally forgot. Feed store is not very close so I think I will shred some paper for now until I can get back to the store.
