Whats what?

I have 30 "araucana" chicks - 4weeks old I ordered from a hatchery- now I think they might be Easter eggers- or are they the same thing? can a hatchery sell a chick and call it a aracana- when its not truely and araucana?

whats the difference between and Americana and a Araucana?

Thanks to all you experts- who knew there was so much to learn about chickens!

Thanks so much for the link! Helps alot.

Love the bright blue colors of a true Araucana though it seems mine will be Easter Eggers.

I purchased an "Araucana" from a local feed store (who also said they would be getting Ameraucanas the next week) and at about 3 weeks old this little one has tail feathers - clearly not a true Araucana. But we're happy to have her either way.

Yeah, a lot of feedstores will even sell "Araucanas" and "Ameraucanas" seperately, but they're still EEs. I've run into a lot of people who will even say, after I explained the differences to them, that "it had a tail, so its an Ameraucana" or "it didn't have a tail and had fluff on its face, so it was an Araucana" - Umm, no.
