My chickens have developed a cough, runny nose, are lethargic, and I have lost quite a few since yesterday. I'm at a loss and disinfecting everything. They appear to all be ill.
I can't figure out what they have.. and don't know what to do any advice?

I think a necropsy would help you. Nothing was evident before now. Check the feed, sometimes it is moldy. Could be upper respiratory illness. I heard Oxine fogging helps that. Booster and VetRX are good for helping them fight it. Sorry I can't be more helpful. Vet may be helpful too since it is fast acting and large amount of birds. I wonder if avian flu could be the cause?[IMG]

Welcome to BYC! I'm sorry for your losses. [IMG]

Whatever your chickens have, it sounds very contagious and highly lethal. You should call your state vet or local Ag Extension office. They will have someone come out and test your birds. It could be bad feed, or it could be Avian Flu. The only way to know for sure is to have them tested. Testing is important for you to know what you are dealing with, as well as to protect your neighbors that may have chickens. Your state vet can give you help and recommendations on sanitizing. Once you identify what illness you are dealing with, you can make a plan to move forward. While it may be tempting to try to treat this yourself, in the long run you will be much farther ahead by asking for help from people knowledgeable in chicken diseases.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Thank you guys. I should also add that some have very swollen heads around their eyes as well. It's very strange. I'm working on having someone come down to take a look so I can figure out what to do next.
