I have 5 hens of laying age and have got less than two dozen egess in 3 weeks is that normal for a cold winter in pa

Well… the answer to your question may depend on a number of issues.

If they are within their first year of laying, then they will lay through the winter without artificial light supplementation. Past that time, they would need light supplementation to simulate an extension of daylight to 14 hours. (I don't provide supplemental light and let mine rest through the winter. Funny thing, one of them started laying again in January this year - and she's 4 years old! Go figure.)

Breed plays a factor as well. Some breeds will lay almost daily, while other breeds may lay less.
