Ok, hopefully this is the correct place for this...

I've been lurking on and off for a while now, but I think I might have some questions coming soon, so I thought I had better introduce myself first.

I am in central BC, Canada with my soon-to-be husband, our two dogs (border collie and Australian shepherd), two cats, a house bunny, two aquariums, and 8 chickens. I have two 2-yo's that are the parents of the other five yearlings and a rooster that is unrelated. The original hens were from Rochester and sold as Ameraucaunas (not sure of their reputaion on purebreds, so may be EE's). The rooster is supposed to be an Am, but he has no muff, so hopefully EE, at least. I had a bunch of Columbians last year, but I got rid of them as I found they were not nearly as cold tolerant as the Am's.

This year I am attempting to incubate since the prices on chicks was ridiculous. I have a Hovabator (forced air) with 3 dozen blue/green eggs in it right now, on day 7/8. So far things look good, I candled the other day and had a few iffy ones, will try again on sat, probably.

I'm already pretty familiar with chickens and livestock (I was in 4H and also raised silkies and Chinese geese when I was a kid). I'm also hoping to try some of my Mom's Embden eggs in the bator.

I'll post some pics later when I get organized...sorry for the novel!

Welcome to BYC! It's great to have a 'newbie' that isn't so new to the wonderful world of chickens.

    Can't wait to see pictures.
