I'm not sure who to dislike the hatchery, or the USPS..

A month or two months back we ordered 2 pairs of goslings, one pair being saddlebacks, and the other american buffs.. We ordered them through Ideal Poultry, located in Cameron, Texas. We were supposed to be notified when they were shipped, which was supposed to be March 4th, but instead they decided to ship them out March 3rd without telling us of the changed date. A good thing to ship them out a day earlier, right? Wrong... It is March 6th at 9:45am and there is no sign of them being anywhere near our post office.. I am dreading the call that they have arrived.. I am dreading opening the box to all of them being deceased from the cold. I'm dreading this because I'm afraid that the hatchery will not have the decency to replace them.. Ideal Poultry has been the worse hatchery so far.. I thought they changed but it seems as if they did not.. i'll update if they do come.. I'm hoping that they arrive safe and alive..

My chicks shipped from ideal poultry are missing too.. The PO isn't expecting another delivery today.. I've plead to them to search for my chicks even if there wasn't chirping.. Explained to them that after 72 hours out of the shell that they are literally starving and dying of dehydration.

Please update if your order comes

    My order:
    10 Saipan (7 pullets 3 cockerels)
    7 Malay (5 pullets 2 cockerels)
3 white laced red Cornish pullets
    5 dark Cornish ( 3 pullets 2 cockerels)
    7 spangled russian orloffs(5 pullets 2 cockerels)
    10 ameraucana pullets
    8 barred rock pullets
    5 Cornish rock st runs

Hope it turns out well for you, it's so hard after anticipating arrival to be more horrified than happy when they do get there. This has been a terrible winter with so much snow and below 0 weather in many areas, and it's very possible that there are travel delays along the route that neither the hatchery nor the USPS can prevent. There were 30 miles of Interstate backed up for over 20 hours in Kentucky yesterday, and all roads were crawling through 15-20 inches of snow and multiple car pile ups. Flights were cancelled all over. They just can't move in this.

I know I saw that. I'm just getting a little tired of people blaming me for ordering when I did.. Its march in sc and I ordered from Texas long before we started having freakish amounts of snow.. It gets hot here.. Too hot for summer shipping to be any less risky and that makes some of my chosen breeds have a short availability window.

It caught us all off guard! I scheduled an order the first of January when it was 54 degrees and by delivery day of February 17 I was on day 2 of 9 days being unable to get out of my driveway. Not a lot we can do about the weather [IMG]

I have never ordered chicks through a hatchery, I've always just waited for our local feed stores to get them in. But for my last year in 4H, I wanted birds that were gorgeous.. The saddleback geese are my dream bird, and are sold in very few places..

It is not your fault. People need birds at certain times in a year. People may be able to predict the weather, but it is still unpredictable.

When ordering chicks in the winter...you are taking high risk of their health and lives, also your money.

That might offend some people but there are no two ways around that fact.
