I felt like a huge poser, saying I was going to free range birds, but having them cooped up. Sort of like saying your exclusively nursing baby is vegetarian, since by definition, ALL exclusively nursing babies are. The chicks were too young to go out in this chilly air until now but now it's official! Sixty six Freedom Rangers left their run and sixty six went back into the coop cooperatively to go to bed. Heck, they didn't just cooperate, they raced like lunatics to get to the coop for their dinner.

Can I just say how hugely amusing it is to show up in my back yard and have sixty six chickens see me and come running? Yeah, it's just because I'm the one who distributes the snacks, but it's still a riot to watch. I've GOT to get my camcorder up and running. SOON.

You gotta just love those hundred eyes looking at you and thinking "YUM". Nothing beats looking into a flock or tub of birds and having them all look back!

Sixty six woooooooooow I would be sleeping in the chicken coop! I had to beg to be able to get 15! But when see isn't looking I am going to get more and tell her I don't know were they came from!

Oh, I started at 100 meaties. I lost a bunch to preds, a few to human error and gave 10 away. Ten more are going to Carress here on BYC, too.

Of course, I have another three dozen in the brooder, too.

i have 105 meaties that come barreling towards me when it's round up time.

it's so funny. if i have an orange bucket, they will follow me anywhere!

So I guess the question is, do they ALWAYS follow you when you leave the house? Am I destined to have 100 birds follow me every time I set foot outside? Will I always have to have a sack of treats on hand in able to go to the yard? How do I keep them from going under my car, once I have a car?
