Including spent grain with feed

If I feed my hens spent grain (my partner is a home brewer and really excited he can finally do something with his spent brew grain besides toss it in the trash) can i just mix it in with their pellets in their feeder? I made a feeder out of PVC and a Y valve to cut down on waste but am concerned about it going bad before they eat it as I've heard it spoils fairly quickly. Would it be better to give it to them separately? I don't actually have my chickens yet (I getting 3 this weekend!) so i'm not sure how quickly they would go through the food in the feeder.
