Has anyone ever incubated the eggs inside of the carton without the top being cut off & it closed, in other words just put the eggs in the carton close it & put it in the bator, will this work ? anyone ever done this ?

I'd worry about ventilation. Even using the bottom part of an egg carton I was advised to cut out most of the bottom to allow for more "breathe-ability" so I think with the carton left intact, there would be too much risk of suffocation. I'll be interested to hear what others think though.

Quote:I agree. I would think that there needs to be some air circulation around the eggs. Also, I would be afraid of moisture condensation inside the carton and "drowning" the chick. Just my two cents worth.

The developing chick gets its oxygen through the shell. If its closed in a box - it will eventually run out of air.

Ok, that's what I thought. but I dont ever cut the bottom off of the carton, & they do very well, that's with a fan running all the time.

    do you have a turner?

use the racks instead of cartons .

I have tried both and both works

I have lost chicks without the cartons , because other chicks will roll the eggs and turn them over when pecking the shell

    is your call

    try half and half

    and compare results
