I'm wondering what are the best sources of information about peafowl on the internet? I'm not talking about the usual endlessly repeated basic stuff that's on so many sites or the occasional raving nutter. I mean actual hard to find information that reliable and that at least stands up to scrutiny.

I had always found this forum to be one of the biggest and best, however I found a forum the other day, were they where claiming to be "the largest source of peafowl information on the Internet" with BYC a distant second (not sure how this stacks up though, BYC peafowl sub-section has twice as many topics and 20,000 more posts and that's even though their sub-section covers pheasants and peafowl - still since they never quantify what criteria they've used I'm in no position to dispute their claim ).

Still it got me thinking how do you quantify these things and I'm wondering what sites I might have missed out on...... any ideas?

I think you are already there, repeats and all.
I have never seen a site with more info and ongoing conversations about peafowl than this one.

I do agree, you get the best results when you have several peafowl breeders answering your questions, that way you know it is more accurate because not only does Jon Doe say your bird is a pied, but 5 other people say the same thing. It is really helpful that way and is certainly updated more than a personal website.

Well I have to promote my website only because even though it is certainly not nearly the best and I have only had peafowl since October 2009, I try to add unique things to my site and like to update it frequently. I probably don't show up on most peafowl website searches, I am working on that, but eh it is an obsession and a hobby that I love. So you can check out my site and give it a critique about what I should add to it concerning things you don't see on other sites that you want to see, etc.

When I was really wanting peafowl I found a few sites to be very informative:
http://www.unitedpeafowlassociation.org/ they also have a facebook page linked to on there site. They have good information.

The peafowl varieties database is a little old and doesn't have all 225 + peafowl varieties, but it is great reference especially when deciding what kind of variety you want.

I love Texaspeafowl for there beautiful photographs of their birds, and wonderful aviaries:

Hopkins Alternative livestock has great articles that you don't find everywhere like some very useful guides for giving oral doses to your peafowl, shipping peafowl, etc.

Legg's peafowl is probably the largest breeder of peafowl. Their site talks a lot about origins of different varieties. They also have peachick care info and some other stuff.

If you are into green peafowl this site is good:
    http://www.pavo-muticus.com/english/home.html

Also here is a European site (in English) that has good info for both green peafowl requirements and India blue requirements:
    Green peafowl info: http://www.pfauenfarm.de/Home-English/The-Peafowl/Husbandry-PM/husbandry-pm.html
India Blue peafowl info (also works for India blue varieties): http://www.pfauenfarm.de/Home-English/The-Peafowl/Husbandry-PC/husbandry-pc.html

Those sites are great for reading lots of neat information, and using them along with this site works very well. I started off just searching peafowl info on my own before I got peafowl. Then I joined the UPA forum, I got peafowl, then I found BYC, and eventually I joined BYC and started learning things very quickly.

Lovepea.. You must be talking about the one in Australia and the man named P A. That site is a farce as he answers a lot of his own post...
Watch it a while and you will see what I mean. There is another one in Australia that is pretty good. I think some show up here at times and it is interesting in the way things are there as far as raising birds. I enjoyed the visits that I had there. connerhills

    Thanks for the welcome everyone!

Thanks for the site ideas MinxFox, its amazing how you forget some and miss an odd one..... any more anyone?

Hi Connerhills, having looked at a number of articles on the site I have to admit I'm somewhat puzzled once you get past the various Hooray Henry's and Yes Men the the amount of actual information given out seems non-existent, and since they have only have a few colors and bad mouth any information from overseas as non-relevant, I can't see how they call themselves "no1 source of peafowl information on the Internet in the world today", still each to their own. Not convenienced at the supposed pure Javas, that they are promoting through the site either especially the pictured reverse pied javas.... still I'm no expert so I will have to leave it to the individual to make up their own mind.

PS I was really puzzled at the sites price guide, how would the US members feel about the big US breeders getting together to publish a helpful guide at what you pay each year for birds?, I thought that idea had gone with the repeal of the corn laws and fall of communism as non-workable in a free market! What does anyone else think of the idea, yea or nay?

Not sure how a data base would work, the cost of feed is different in different areas and how much one can expect to get for peafowl will also vary, i can get 25 to 40 dollars for babies but just charge 25 no matter what color they are , while my neighbor in another state gets 50 dollars all day long for their babies, it is what the market will bare so it would be hard to have an accurate data base IMO.

Also when someone claims to have the best site on the web it is just that a claim, it means nothing to me "the proof is in the pudding "and we are the pudding [IMG] Nuff said!
