Injured and depressed chicken

I've had chickens for about 4 months now (my first time owning chickens), and unfortunately
last night my dogs chewed through the run and coop and killed 3 of my 5 pullets. Two were 6 weeks old and one was four months. One of my survivors, another four month old one, received an injury to her back, a hole about a pinky-width large. It didn't bleed a lot, just looked like the skin was pulled off and some muscle (I believe) shows. I've cleaned the area and applied neosporin. She's not really eating or drinking, just a few drops here and there and she favors and leans on her bad side. I think she's depressed about her friend being killed. They ate together, slept, bathed, and played together all their lives. It's upsetting for both of us. Is there anything else I can do for her? She's been sleeping in my room, so I can watch out for her since my coop and run have to be fixed. I'm really worried about her, so any suggestions?

Aside from treating the injury, what you need to do is get her at least one companion. Chickens often move right on when one dies but if she's only the one left it's understandable that she's lonely. Get her a friend as soon as possible.

Keep in mind that too many new chickens might bully just one hen.

Arizona Chickens might have more info. It's a BIG Arizona thread.

My other survivor is only six weeks old and she's in shock still, too. I put them together and they just kind of ignored each other. So I think it's going to be a long process. But thank you!

Yes, I think you're right. Sorry about the misunderstanding - I understood from your post that the other 4 month old bird had died too.

Good luck!
