My duck just got attacked by a snapper. Can he be saved there is a large 3-4 inch area that is not going to have skin. I know from previous attacks that I need to use saline solution to clean, then remove feathers around the wound and any hanging skin. I planned to put polysporin on it and gauze and wrap it after. I'm just wondering if recovery is possible from this. Theres no muscle damage it's just skin. 20180715_115338.jpg 20180715_115338.jpg

I think that will heal fine if you can get it clean, keep it clean and free of flies.

    Is a vet an option?

What is the best way to remove that amount of feathers?

I just pluck them. :idunnoPluck in the direction they grow and be careful not to rip skin. If plucking is too hard, try scissors.

    Poor duckie :hit:hit
I would be most worried about infection and fly strike like cas. Already said. It's amazing what they can heal from. . but keeping a wound like that clean will be really hard I bet. :hugs

Question... What's all the green stuff on top of the muscle? Oh, and be careful, birds have air sacs.

Its duck weed from the pond. I was planning on keeping the duck inside in a brooder to keep the flys away...
