My young turkey got caught in a fence upside down by the leg. It scraped the skin away to the bone on the front (not that there's a lot of flesh there). Nothing seemed broken or dislocated but she was sore and favoring the leg. I put her in my bathroom to recover. It's been a couple days and while she can stand wobbling, she doesn't seem to be moving her toes. They will curl under when she stands. They aren't stiff and I can flex them. Any advice?

Hi! Sorry about your turkey.I'm not sure of the cause of this but I would make a "shoe" from light cardboard and tape the toes so they stay right.:idunno Like you would do with a chick with curled toes. It would help hold the tendons while they heal. Looks like the wound is doing good.

Sorry about your turkey poult. She may have some nerve damage, but hopefully, she will recover. Can you straighten her toes out flat in a normal position? If so, you could make her a shoe with tape on the bottom and the top. I would give her 1/2 of a vitamin B complex tablet, which you can get from Walmart, Walgreens, or a drugstore—brand does not matter. Grate it or crush it onto some of her food. Clean her leg with betadine, chlorhexidene, and dab on som Triple Antibiotic Ointment daily.

Thanks. The thought crossed my mind about taping her toes like a chick. I'll give it a try. She's the only female out of 4 poults I raised so of course she's the one that got hurt. I have b complex so I'll do that too. I was wondering if a tendon got severed but wasn't 100% sure if there's a tendon on the front of the leg.

She's mostly healed up and her foot is working like it's supposed to. She just has a little limp. I introduced her to my 2 adults. All seems well.
