It looks like my 2 month old EE has ripped one her toenails. The toe itself is fine, but the nail is bent to the side and looks like its torn off a little bit. There is a little bit of blood, but not much. She walks fine and still scratches with that foot. But when she's standing still she keeps that leg lifted. Obviously, its not a major injury, but it does bother her.

My first instinct is just to let it alone to heal and keep an eye on it for infection. But I am new to chickens so I just wanted to see if there is something I need to do. I don't want her to be in pain!

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you!

You are doing the right thing. Watch for infection around the nail area. If you want you can put a little triple antibiotic ointment or neosporin around it to help with any infection. We have them tear out nails every once in a while. Usually with no more stress than a sore foot for a couple of days.

I think I will put some neosporin on it first thing in the morning - just to be sure!

Thank you for your help!
