Well, I waited a while to post this but here goes...
I got this crazy idea to order one of those mini - bators that hold 4 quail eggs or 3 chicken, etc. and took it over to my boys school to share the experience with the kids for the after school program I direct. We have a total of 9 kids in the entire school which I take care of after school until their parent pick them up (2 of them are mine). I ordered the bator with four quail eggs. I received all bobwhite eggs and have them at about 100 deg., faithfully been turning them twice daily according to the instructions and yesterday was day 12, I pulled the group together to candle them. The kids are excited! Of the four we saw dark shadows in 3 of them! Also, is it normal for the eggs to become more difficult to turn due to the weight ratio? Kinda like weebles? I'm having challenges with turning them as they want to roll back! [IMG] I'm assuming as the chicks grow bigger that this is what's creating the challenge? This just started a couple of days ago. The kids this morning thought it to be pretty funny as they watch me turn them & they turned back! [IMG]
Pro hatchers of BYC, your input would be greatly appreciated! [IMG]

The way the chicks are positioned in the shell will effect the way they sit in the incubator. As the chicks grow in the shell, they are less mobile inside it, unlike a new embryo which can float throughout most of the egg and should effect placement. I don't hand turn, so I can't tell you what you should be feeling, but it sounds like you are almost there [IMG]

I looove to give feedback [IMG]

Good luck with the hatch, you should have chicks soon. The front index page does move very quickly, but if you click on the sub forum of incubating and hatching eggs, it should still be on that front page for a good day or so.
