Counting on some out side perspective since the 'hatchery' I purchased my chicks from will not respond after repeated inquiries.
I ordered the following:
Ameraucanas (which turned out to be EE's...should have know better)
Bluebells (hybrid RIR and Maran I believe)
Marans combo-supposed to be both Wheaten and Blue Copper

Here are two girls, one of which has truly stumped me. She has a great personality and is cute (iin my opinion:), I just want to know what she is....I have gone through the hatchery website top to bottom and don't see where she's even any of the other breeds they sell. Here goes--she's just over 5 months old and not sure if she's begun to lay ey so no help on egg color. She is a she, that's about all I know.

And the second girl in question--same age. Solid black, dakr legs,no leg feathering. Also a beauty in my eyes, but what is she?

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!

This one might be a New Hampshire, or maybe a production red mix. What hatchery did you get her from? That would help narrow down the breeds.

What color are the bottoms of her feet? If they are white, she is likely an Australorp or a Black Opington. If the bottoms are yellow, she is a Jersey Giant or Java.

THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!

Agree with the above, they don't look like anything you actually ordered. With a hatchery you might also be dealing with a second+ generation EE that didn't get the common EE characteristics, and maybe a black bluebell or marans that didn't get the leg feathering.

Thanks for your insight Wyandotte7 and Kelsie2290. I was thinking "Ginger" was some EE throwback also and I was leaning towards the black pullet being along the lines of a Bluebell but they are both really way off...just wanting some answers! The hatchery is Cedar Creek in Michigan...check out their breeds, maybe you'll have better luck than I. I was told they'd be happy to assist in ID'ing them, but after waiting over 2 months (yes, I sent pics) and three e-mails I've written them off.

Looking at their site the only thing I see for Ginger is EE, they don't have NHR, they do have RIR but she would be an awfully awfully light one. With Blackie they do have javas and jersey giants both have yellow skin, which is all I see for her as a possibility if she isn't a non-feather legged marans or black bluebell.

I agree, I think Ginger is an EE that didn't inherit a beard. Does she have a pea comb?

The black one looks an awful lot like an Australorp or maybe a Jersey giant. Neither have the "look" of a Marans.

That's what I was thinking (Ginger--EE), only thru the process of elimination....just odd as she has not one of the characteristics of an EE...and no, no pea comb. Guess the proof will be in the egg? Crossing my fingers she'll pop out a beautiful robin-egg blue egg") Hey...one can always dream! She's such a nice bird I'm good with whatever she may be--just frustrated by the fact that there is no certainty that I got what I paid for....never again will I make that mistake.

And "Blackie" (for lack of a name) is ...who knows? I've never had an Australorp or JG so no way to compare--always liked them but went for other breeds. Do you know what other characteristics I'd look for with those breeds, beyond the obvious...black and large? Her comb is larger now, and floppy, so I'd guess due to ?? breeding? Unless she has Leghorn thrown in..sigh.

Blackie looks to be either an Australorp or black star.
Will be interesting to see what she looks like once she's totally grown--the place I got her from only has Black Javas and Black Jersey Giants, along with the possibility of her being a version of Black or Blue Copper Marans that ended up without leg feathering, etc. or maybe a Bluebell that pulled up black since they can end up black, blue splash or blue...this place isn't supposed to have Australorps of Black Stars but I doubt they will ever tell me...it's been over six weeks since I asked so I've pretty much written them off.
