So I heard placing rubber eggs/or similar, in nesting boxes may, or may not, encourage the girls to lay. As we are waiting our first egg, i thought 'why not, it won't hurt', & so i placed a rubber egg in one of the boxes...

& this morning shrieked with delight when feeding the ladies I found this...my rubber egg [IMG] I forgot it was me [IMG]

    On the MN prairie.
I took a sharpie and drew circles around my ceramic eggs to avoid this very thing. :D

I've picked up a fake egg and put it in the basket.... more than once.....when the pencil marks wore off, guess I should use a sharpie.
