It can get down to 30 below zero in the winter where I live. If I decide to winter over breeding stock should I insulate the nest box ?

Quote:First of all, "where do you live"? (I wish folks would at least put their state in their profile... [IMG] ..... just sayin'). Anyhow, not knowing what kind of birds you have, the fact that it gets "30 below zero" and the term "nest boxes" just doesn't match up as being reality! Unless you live at the North Pole, I would hope you live in a hemisphere where there's a "warm" season. Now, warm to you may be +40ºF.....I don't know [IMG] But, I can tell ya one thing, if you have to "insulate" a nest box, I don't think it's time for the Mrs.-Expecting-Egg-Dropin'-Quail-Mamma to deliver.

So sorry, I live in Wisconsin. It only gets that cold a few nights in January. I would not expect to have birds lay all winter. Just over winter a few for spring egg laying. It ain't the North Pole! We do have a few days of summer.

Quote:Good Idea! I think it will help with the central air I'll be installing for the long hot summer and the fireplace for winter. I like my birds to be cozy![IMG]
