I stumbled upon this invaluable site on total accident after making the decision to raise some layers this year. I was on Pinterest. Pinning, and pinning, and one of the pins was off BYC. Fast forward 4 hours of reading each comment on that ONE thread about poop boards, I was hooked. I went down that there rabbit hole! I want to take time at the beginning of this post to thank each and every one of you for having such AMAZING information for noobs like me! I've done some hardcore lurking the past few months and once my husband said "you'd better decide what you want your coop to be", I knew it was becoming a reality and thought I'd better take the plunge and officially join!!

So here I am! I spent the entire day today (minus eating and paying attention to my very active 7 year old only child!) on two threads about brooding a certain way...and I'm still on because quite frankly, I can't get enough of BYC! I think my husband thinks I'm nuts, because every time he comes home or into the room once home, I'm scrolling through the forums! :lau I'm not even sure he knew I was actually serious about raising chickens until last week, when I started my design! lol He made it a firm point to tell me that beyond helping build the coop, he is not going to have anything to do with these chickens. This undertaking is my baby. I'm responsible for their every need. Every day. (We'll see...;))

You see...I'm not exactly the outdoor type. I like going on walks and sitting in nature, but as far as doing things like large scale vegetable gardening and taking care of the hanging baskets I insist on putting together every year that I let die by July---because hey...it's survival of the fittest out there...if a flower can thrive in the ditch full of weeds after having been pooped out as a seed by a bird, then why the heck can't the stuff I pay good money for that I baby and water and put in the shade and lovely soil?!---I'm not really a fan. I get too hot. I don't like sweating. I don't like the feeling of dirt on my hands or under my nails. My face gets all red. And I burn and get sun reactions like no other after just 15 minutes. There's a reason that I only occasionally help pick the asparagus we farm (2/3 acre...obviously not MY idea...) and stick to the "sales and marketing", which is more of a headache but at least I can do it from my air conditioned house for the most part.

So yeah...of course he didn't believe me when I said I wanted to do chickens. I honestly can say I really don't like birds in general. Something about watching big flocks in the sky, although beautifully orchestrated by nature, gives me the heebies...I just find them dirty. I don't know. Don't judge me; it's just one of my "things". But for whatever reason...I'm beyond excited and consumed and completely obsessed by the prospect of raising these lovely ladies! I even have a name for the coop, once built. I designed the sign that will go over the coop door last week. I've lost my marbles. :celebrate

Steph...I think your husband is going to love helping you with your birds. Just give him a few weeks...I bet you catch him sneaking them treats.
