Introduced new chickens have a question

We build a smaller pen and put in our bigger pen. Put the six hens in last night. Put a tarp around and over 1/2 of their pen. But it was cool last night and I realized that I had not thought of what to put on the ground where they would be back under the tarp for night. What should I put for a floor in there?

You could use wood shavings, mulch, sand or plain soil. The first two are more likely to generate heat. I would leave soil in there during summer, and in winter throw in some mulch.

Thank you for your reply. I put some Hay down this evening. Will put some shavings inside tomorrow. They are on gass and I will be able to move the pen around the large one. I am new at having chickens and adding new chickens.
