I was lucky enough to get my very first broody hen who has successfully raised 2 chicks that are now 4 weeks of age. I set mumma up in a large pen within the original pen so my other chooks and roo have been in close contact with mumma and chicks the whole time although seperated by wire mesh.
Wondering when I can let mumma and the chicks out to live with the flock? I only have 4 other hens and the roo but Im terrified of them picking on the chicks.
    Any advice appreciated [IMG]

I would just do it tomorrow and stay to watch for a few minutes. Chances are mama hen will protect them well and all will integrate in just fine. I also have a mama sitting on 8 chicks and they range in age from 11 days to 3.5 weeks. When the littlest are 4 weeks, I'll be removing the exact same mesh setup you described. Today I let them all out with the flock to get some treats and none of the chicks were pecked, they even tried to steal food from the big girls and nothing happened.
