Hi All! Looking forward to learning a lot from this site and all of you. I have a small flock of mostly Silkies (15-20) with a few other mixed breeds. I found this site from searching for an issue one of my young hens is having. After reading everything I could I believe I have a gape worm issue. I'm heading to Tractor Supply tomorrow morning for some Valbazen. Hoping I figured right! Will let you know how it goes.

[IMG] Good luck at resolving your issue. Not all 'gaping' actions are the result of gapeworms. In 71 years of keeping birds, I have never had a gapeworm problem. Maybe it's just the area in which I live?

Welcome to BYC. Sourland is absolutely correct, gapeworm are rare in chickens. If she's yawning, she could simply be adjusting her crop or throat, or the onset of some type of respiratory disease (hopefully not.)

Hello and welcome to BYC [IMG] I also thought one of my pullets had gape worm once. Turns out she had something stuck in the throat. Pour a little bit of olive oil into her mouth and rub her throat gently, see if that helps. Good luck!
