This is my favorite chicken from the group I got from TSC in early April. They are all five and a half weeks old, and I was told that the buff chicks would be New Hampshire Reds and the darker ones were Rhode Island Reds, but I think someone was confused about the buffs. Are they Orpingtons? Anyway, Alice is my favorite chicken, and I'm worried she's a he. Opinions?

Her head close up, slightly out-of-focus, sorry.

Pretty sure Dorothy is a hen:

Possibly Scruffy is a rooster? He's still not fully feathered, and all the other buff birds are. He's also a crab.

This is my favorite of the reds, hoping she's a girl.

Alice looks like a hen to me but Scruffy, he looks like he's a he. Don't know about the red one.

Looks hennyfied to me. A roos comb would be a darker red. Also she looks like a Buff Orp to me [IMG] JMO

    Alice looks like a roo.

Have never seen a pullet that got a comb big like that in that age.
  7. Alice is a hen. BO that I had looked like this when they were young.
They are both laying eggs now.

Alice looks like a hen. Some young Orpingtons have larger combs; ours did, and she turned out to be a hen. Dorothy looks like a hen. Scruffy looks more rooish...

Is the last one a Red sex-link(or Red Star)? If so, then it's a hen. Rooster Red Stars are cream colored with some brown on wings. [IMG] If they are RIR's, or NHRs, then I'm not sure...looks like a hen to me.

P.S. yes those golden ones are Buff Orpingtons [IMG]

[IMG] I think I'll wait and see who crows and who lays eggs. [IMG] And I'll try not to get too attached to Alice/Alex until I know for sure! I appreciate everyone's input, and it's good to know that all hope is not lost on Alice.
