I got a mix of 5 brown layers and 10 rare breed from Meyer Hatchery's May 26th hatch, so our chicks were not marked for breed and are now 8 weeks old. Most of them have been pretty easy to identify as they have gotten older, though a few are still a "which of these 2 or 3 breeds is this?" Then there's Alice.

Alice appears to be blue or splash, as she is a pale silvery-blue with a few dark grey feathers here and there at random. Pale beak and comb. Grey legs. She is starting to get a little big of cheek/neck ruff this past week, but not as much as our for-sure EE, Punk's Not Dead. No wattles yet, but her comb is similar to the two lavendar Orpingtons in shape.

First 3 pics are from the past week or so, 4-6 are from six weeks. Is Alice just an unusual and pretty EE or olive egger? A poor hatchery-quality "Ameraucana" (as Meyer defines them)? Doesn't change anything about how much we like her, just curious!

It does happen on occasion that an EE will be born/bred without a beard, but its more rare to have one with a single comb since peacomb is dominant to it, so I'm not sold on her being an EE until she pops out a green/colored egg ;D

Looks like on Meyer's rare breed list there is Andalusian and Orpington with I personally feel like would be a little bit more likely, but it should be easier to tell when shes older and more feathered out :D

We have two lavender Orpingtons from the same hatch date at Meyer and she's SO different from them! Feathered out significantly later, different color, feather texture, beak shape. I could maybe believe blue/splash Andalusian, though, which I hadn't even considered! Thanks for the reply!

Hmm...I agree, but egg color will determine it!

She looks a lot like our blue andalusian did, who also came from a Meyer rare assortment. Our Ally is slightly darker but same body, comb, beak etc.

We also have lavender orps from there and you're right on about the differences, from body type to feather quality.

Ally is 17 weeks now and has been a very fun (and adventurous) chicken to raise, one of our favorites from that assortment.
