is black mulch safe for baby chicks?

i have looked for answers but it seems no one has any. i know all about pine chips, wood, newspapers, rags, and hay but I'm just very curious about the black mulch. I've looked up whats in black mulch and it says there is dye in there but I'm not sure if it will be safe for my soon coming chicks.

I wouldn't use it for chicks, because of the chemicals in the dye. I would use wood shavings. I don't even use dyed mulch in my run with deep litter, I use natural or tree trimming mulch. However they do dig in my flower beds with the dyed mulch sometimes.
