Quote:It depends on the type of quail egg as to whether you can candle it. I would go with option 2 and just incubate any more eggs she lays.

How old are the quail and is it the very first egg?

When young and just start laying, chances are the first few are infertile.

Of our first 8 , 2 were not.
We cracked them open to eat. :)

You can try to incubate it, but good chance it wont be fertile.

I would suggest if you do, you try and explain to your sister there's a good chance it wont hatch. She may be very dissapointed if it doesn't .
