Is it normal for baby chicks crops to be mushy?

I have 3 chicks that they're crops are mushy. During the day but empty in the morning so I don't think its sour crop. One of them does do the choking motion hear and there though. They're outside during the day so could they pick up something? I put some garlic in the water aswell.
