Is it Normal to Roll in Grit?

My 5 week olds go nuts and dust bathe in their chick grit. Should I put it in a smaller dish so they are only eating it? Or is it okay?

You could put the grit in a smaller dish and give them some dirt to use as a dust bath, but it's okay for them to roll in the grit.

Short of wasting grit it aint gonna hurt anything. Yeah I would shrink the dish and give 'em some dry dirt to bathe in.

What are you using as a substrate? It looks like they are being brooded without any bedding. They might not dust bathe in their grit if they had a substrate they could bathe in...sand, pelletized bedding, or a designated dust bath.

They really just want to dirt bathe. Mine will just roll around in the run litter in a sunny spot.

In the pic they were just on top of the brooder while I was cleaning. I use hemp bedding. I’ll try setting up a designated dust bath and moving the grit to a smaller dish.
